Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue
We see patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms in both our centres. Fibromyalgia includes symptoms of joint pain, muscle stiffness, extreme fatigue, difficulty thinking (“brain fog”), and difficulty sleeping. Often the diagnosis given by GPs isn’t clear-cut, and patients are generally told that there is nothing that can be done about the condition. The classic idea is that fibromyalgia is caused by alterations to how the body processes sensory information. Abnormal levels of certain chemicals change how the nervous system processes pain signals around the body.
We tend to see good results with fibromyalgia patients, using Advanced Biostructural Correction™ which we use as our primary treatment method. However, the road to recovery is a lengthy one and it’s not a condition that can be dealt with in a “quick fix”.

Fibromyalgia is a condition that severely limits patients’ ability to enjoy their lives. Often, the pain and fatigue become so debilitating that patients are disabled, unable to work, and unable to enjoy their family life or hobbies. Usually they have tried everything from antidepressants to acupuncture, pain medication, aromatherapy, massages, reiki, chiropractic care, or physiotherapy before they find their way to us at the Pain & Posture Wellness Centre. We will carry out a detailed examination to see where the joint pain and fatigue are coming from.
Your brain fog may be coming from your spine
Usually, fibromyalgia patients report a long list of falls or accidents in their past, often going back to childhood. Each of these incidents changed the body’s structure a little bit by misaligning the spine a tiny bit more. If the body is unable to correct these misalignments by itself (because it doesn’t have muscles that provide leverage in exactly the right direction), it twists up more and more. This leads to painful joints and stiff muscles. Alongside, there is an enormous tension in the spinal nerves. The spinal cord gets stretched from end to end – all the way up to the brain. This tension is usually behind the symptoms of chronic fatigue, and very often it is the cause of abnormal levels of certain brain chemicals. We address the underlying structural changes and are generally able to slowly reverse the process. We usually see good results in terms of symptom relief, but it can take years to get to the bottom of the underlying cause.

Patients who suffer from fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue usually respond well to Advanced Biostructural Correction™. However, their recovery on average takes much longer than that of patients with, say, back pain or neck pain. Milestones that can take an “average” patient two months to reach may take a fibromyalgia patient twice that long. Does this mean it’s not worth coming in to see us? No. It just means we are being honest about expectations and timelines and progress. If we work together as a team, we can reach good results. But it’s a marathon, not a sprint. And the road to recovery may be a bit rocky at first.
